The Knitters Graph Paper Journal is finally here. It’s been a really fun project to work on. I conceived of it when I was getting inundated with printed out sheets of graph paper, flying everywhere and making me crazy!  I like to keep notes on every project I do, and I like a little bit of order in my life.  I also REALLY like cool sketchbooks and journals.  This one’s all of those things, plus I got to design it.  Cool, right?

I spent weeks working on the inside cover artwork, focusing on the big picture–what do knitters what–and then zeroing in, by hand, on every detail.  All of that artwork you see was plotted out and designed in Adobe Illustrator and then hand drawn using a light table, then scanned and imported back into Adobe Illustrator.  It was hours upon hours of labor.  But well worth it, if I do say so myself.

Then, once the project was at the printer (we use 1984 Printing in Oakland), I focused on the social end of things, getting a Facebook page going and a website.  The web design was another highly labor intensive undertaking. I know a little something about CSS and HTML, and I used Bootstrap which helped, but I’m no professional, so I just slogged through it.  But I learned a few things in the end, like the ever growing importance of “responsive” design, jQuery, and a nifty jQuery based image slider (the one I used is called jsSlider).

So here it is, I present to you the KNITTERS GRAPH PAPER JOURNAL

this is wonderful!  a special drawstring pouch, with pockets that keep the sharp pointy pencils isolated and therefore safe to carry along with your young!

it is really none of our business how you human persons choose to protect your young, but this just seems like a bad idea to us.  placing a decoy of an exposed nest with eggs upon a human fry would attract a predator, there is no doubt about that, which seems to entirely defeat the purpose of bothering to clothe your young in the first place.  why would you try to draw a predator to your fry?
unless you are sacrificing one of your young to save the thirty-five thousand others, in which case, carrry on!

also this shop has beanie hats named after the former prime minister of the ukraine, because of her braids.  the hat is called the “tymoschenko”, and it is AWESOME!  we don’t wear hats, or beanies most of the time.  but we love the idea of hiding in these!
