OWS Library Not OK, Books Destroyed, NYPD Hampers Rebuilding Efforts
After the New York Mayor’s office assured the world via Twitter that the Occupy Wall Street library was “safely stored,” it has become apparent that the statement was a half-truth at best. READ MORE

4,000 books are missing or destroyed by the NYPD.
human persons interested in democracy and oppression should read this link!
we found this via Anonymous, and decided to link the blog post directly. thank you, AnonymousOnes!
another amazing selection from OccupyWriters!
this piece is both extremely specific and bizarrely universal, and we found it mesmerizing! we did not know where it was going! in fact we couldn’t even tell where it came from, but the meaning was profound! yay!
as winter and feelings of despair and ennui set in, and the pundits have no idea how to boil you down to a few key phrases, and the police and authorities start trying to use any random excuse they can for shutting you down, like people dying on the streets or parks in or out of shelters, which for some reason doesn’t make the police and authorities want to shut down the problem of actual genuine human HOMELESSNESS, but gives them the idea of using it to shut down a PROTEST or POLITICAL MOVEMENT
(deep swimmy breath!)
we, the Swimmies of Doom, activist fish that we are, busily plugging away at a tiny part of this big battle, in sometimes abstract ways and other times obvious ways, have a message for you, Occupy Movement!
we have been active for ten months now. do we get tired? yes. do we frequently feel ignored? yes. do we think sometimes it is possible we are not making any difference at all? yes. do we wonder why we do it? yes. do we get cold? yes, but rarely, for of course we are more portable than you, and also better insulated, and we are used to it, for we are fish.
do we wonder if anyone is reading us, or thinking about doing something about problems we have talked about here on our tumblr or twitter, or our daily fishy lives? absolutely. we wonder these things all the time. that is the problem with revolution. human persons in particular remember the big clashes, and battles, and dumping tea into boston harbor (again, we thank you!), and off with heads, and guns, and what not. you are good at remembering the drama. you are not so good at remembering that, for example, the American Revolution had about twenty years of thought and preparation going into it, if not more, that it then was actually fought for eight entire years, and then there was another decade and a half of wrangling over a constitution that turned out to be so flawed four score and seven years later there was a second massive bloodbath to fix just one of those problems, and those problems still aren’t finished yet!
Revolutions are Long, and possibly Permanent. that is the hard bitter truth, and it looks even harder in the cold light and frost of winter, with police eying you and pundits mocking you and politicians threatening you.
so we say, sing, and eat, and dance, and read, and take pictures, and tell your stories, and make long thoughtful decisions, and take heart! the journey is the destination, remember that always! we love you all, Occupiers! no one is perfect, and no group is all perfect, but you are good, and right now you are working hard, and you can do it! we support you! we ARE you!
yay!

Keep Wall Street Occupied (Part 1) (by ransackedroom)
Please check out this video. I usually don’t do things like this. When you want to get even this is the way to do it. Legally. My daughter brought this to my attention. The Incensewoman
I think this video idea is GENIUS. This is something I can and will most definitely start doing. I think that if more people did this it would a) keep my coffee table much cleaner and b) afford me a way to communicate my dissatisfaction with those big banks and businesses that have screwed us.
I hope more people will join me in doing this simple task. It takes very little time and will send a message.

for those of you looking for some ways to participate in making your feelings known to the big banks and corporate capitalists who are undermining both america and the world, here is a simple and potentially quite funny idea!
well put!
last night someone on a very sleep-inducing show called “charlie rose” made the following remark: I will paraphrase Gandhi, she said, who said, first they ignore you, then they mock you, then they fight you, then you win.
we hope this is true. we watched some ugly coverage of police beating up unarmed passively-resisting protestors in your human town of oakland, and note that all across the country local governments are cracking down under color of law. they pretend that the law is on their side, but the american constitution disagrees with this, in that all have the right to peacefully assemble, in public places, and the american supreme court has interpreted this to mean that not just congress but government in general, local and otherwise, cannot infringe upon it. so we hope you do not give in to the pressure, human friends! not only are you in the right, but the law is on your side. the police do not stand in for the law, no matter what candy-assed naysayers may claim about your obligations to obey the police even when their orders are illegal and wrong! when they say turn off your cameras, turn them on! when they say move, do not move!
america should not be a police state. no place should be, but america, particularly not!
(priscilla is wondering what would happen if OccupyWallStreet humans DID show up with assault rifles, properly licensed of course, or wearing guns publically in holsters. we brandished the apple cozy at her and she is now helping matilda paint some more signs. priscilla’s signs are quite something. we aren’t sure they should be publically displayed, especially if offspring are around. hmmm. hmmm.)

Anonymous: Operation: Take Our Money Back by Anonymous
I am a proud American who is tired of seeing our great country being strangled to death by the actions of the big banks and their executives. For too long, these bankers have used our money and their “fractional reserve” system to routinely screw the average citizen. They use OUR money, loan out…
*******
READ THIS LINK, HUMAN PERSONS!
and while we are on the subject raised by our good friend(s) Anonymous, here is another idea: do you live in a small town? put pressure on your local government to make sure that the tax money of your town, the investments you are making in your own communities, go to a LOCAL small bank or credit union, not to one of the big wall street banks! when your town collects taxes, it should stay in your town! no giant corporation should be playing with your money, it needs to stay in your area! write to your local government persons! (we know a lot of humans, stranded in small towns, see what is happening in NY and wish to participate but feel helpless! you are not helpless! all politics is local, as our roadie, Bob, often remarks!)
we have learned via some human friends that when they switched their bank accounts to local banks, they got better interest rates, no fees, and great customer service. we have learned that credit unions, if you are able to utilize one, are often a good, safe deal!
in any case, it would be better to take your money out of a large bank and stick it under what you call a “mattress” than it would be to pay huge fees to keep your money someplace where they will use your funds to mess around and make more money— while charging you!!! HOW DOES THIS MAKE SENSE???
this is something practical you all can do if you have one of these bank account things! we are fish, so we have no bank accounts, since we do not utilize “money” to get things done! but you all can take a useful step!
OctopiWallStreet!
(thanks for passing this on, morriganFriend!)

this entire problem could be resolved with universal health care for all! (read the enlightening yet sad link here!)
these human persons called “veterans” are already having a hard time getting the care they need, and most of the rest of american human persons don’t even know about it, they just assume if you are a veteran you will be taken care of. meanwhile human persons who are not veterans are unable to get taken care of at all, and the american government human persons would rather serve big corporations like “insurance companies” instead of just doing the right thing and going to SINGLE PAYER UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE!!!
your president person said during the “health care debates” that if someone had a solution to the problems he wanted to hear it. but he lied. many doctors, nurses, regular persons, even republican human persons, said SINGLE PAYER UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE, and he did not listen, he gave a blank check to corporations who destroyed health care in your country in the first place.
you know, some of you are too young to have seen for yourselves, but things were not always this way, broken and unaffordable and drowning in overpriced medications and careless service. nurses and doctors were not always inattentive because of mounds of paperwork, bribery from pharmaceutical companies, and hospitals telling them to make a profit off the pain of others. this is not how things used to be.
and now your veterans, truly a very small percentage of your population, are expected to shoulder yet more costs, while the military and secret police CIA thing spends hundreds of thousands of dollars flying video-game controlled drones all over the place blowing other human persons up in places you americans do not belong.
we have a suggestion to fix. SINGLE. PAYER. UNIVERSAL. HEALTH. CARE. and failing at that? you are all going down, and your veterans with you.
Occupy Everywhere!
What #Occupy wants is to disconnect Wallstreet from Congress - and allow THE PEOPLE, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, to have their voice heard and their decisions made APPROPRIATELY in congress without their opinions and beliefs being talked over BY the top 1%.
If 70% of the American People want to have Healthcare… Then they should be properly represented by Congress, properly debated, and properly be given healthcare because - as the American Constitution and BIll of Rights states - if a majority of the public vote for something, then that vote is passed.
But almost all of our decisions have been ill-represented and ignored by congress, who are representing the 1% of the population (CEOs), not OUR demands.
If you would rather your decisions be made by incredibly rich people who you think have your best interests in mind, feel free to go back to 1760 when good King George was in power over the united states.
Me? I’d rather kick out the Wall Street influence and live in a country my founding fathers envisioned. Leave it up to the public whether or not we have government handouts. Not a few CEOs.

democracy and capitalism do not coexist well. this is because democracy is a concept based in equality, equal value. this is not to say democracy has been executed perfectly in the past, or even now, where so many human persons are disenfranchised for bullshit reasons, but nonetheless, american democracy is based in the idea that all human persons are equal and therefore are entitled to a voice in their government.
capitalism is a concept, just as democracy is. they both are socio-political theories, one driven by economics and money, the other driven by human persons. democracy does not need capitalism to thrive, and capitalism does not need democracy to thrive. somehow, probably in the 1950s, these two ideas became entangled in your human heads somehow, in opposition to something else you confused, which is to say communism and totalitarianism. like capitalism and democracy, communism and totalitarianism do not need each other to thrive or exist. in fact, capitalism has much more in common with totalitarianism, and democracy has much more in common with communism.
the thing is, it is good to have a balance, so it would be nice to make certain ideas coexist! democracy values persons, capitalism values money. capitalism values money over humanity. capitalism sees human persons as assets, consumers, collateral. if you take a system like that, and temper it with true democracy, well, you might have something tolerable.
unfortunately, that is not what you american human persons have right now.
this tumblr blog is extraordinary, and we salute the human person pictured above, who demands DEMOCRACY. far too many of you are rushing to defend capitalism, which, frankly, is indefensible. look at what it has done to you, to us, to our planet. look at what it is doing right the hell now as we speak! not good! swim away! swim away!
Occupy Everywhere!
today we picked up on a very sad theme, in which some persons, of varying ages, express shame and sadness that they wish to be artists.
they are not actually ashamed, we think. they are made to feel shame, because of the great lie, that what art does is not “practical” or “useful”. yet we have observed human persons spend a lot more time in contact with art, every single day, than they ever spend in contact with, say, some amAZEballs financial machination designed to snick trillions of dollars via some sort of hedge/vine/shrub fund. music alone is an expression of this.
we are endlessly amazed by human artistic expression, and how the arts make everyone, even non-artists, think better! scientists, philosophers, engineers, designers, architects, all of those people who could come up with the Next Big Thing, perhaps a solution to your energy crisis, or for clean air and water, or for any number of things— without ART, those thoughts would never be had.
your human person Steve Jobs died, and everyone said what a great visionary! he would have never been that without art. and he knew it. he honored it. he saw the connection between himself, and John Lennon, and Pablo Picasso, and Jim Henson. he knew this truth, that art and imagination creates all breakthroughs, in every sphere.
even in business. because a true artist would see at once, the system you human persons call “capitalism” is unsustainable and needs to be fixed, and prettied up a bit too!

look at this link! it is a list of writers who support Occupy Wall Street!
there are three publishings here too: a list, by lemony snicket; an essay, by francine prose; a poem, by d.a. powell.
all are worth reading! click to read! yay!
at what point does the “confusion” become “stupidity”, or, why do the media and others persist in pretending to not know what Occupy Wall Street wants? (by the blobfish)
is google broken? because almost all we get from blogs, articles, and commentary by those outside the occupy wall street movement, besides a lot of uncalled for bitching about guy fawkes masks, is “what does it mean?” and “what do they want?” and “you need to make a list of points or something so we can understand you” and “your goals are too vague to grasp”.
really? this is difficult for you? let me help. I am the blobfish. I have no muscles, yet somehow I effortlessly navigate the wide oceans of the google sea. without any effort whatsoever, because I am not capable of exerting effort, for I am a blobfish, I located the following for you, poor human persons.
-
CONGRESS PASS HR 1489 (“RETURN TO PRUDENT BANKING ACT” http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h112-1489 ). THIS REINSTATES MANY PROVISIONS OF THE GLASS-STEAGALL ACT. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass–Steagall_Act
-
USE CONGRESSIONAL AUTHORITY AND OVERSIGHT TO ENSURE APPROPRIATE FEDERAL AGENCIES FULLY INVESTIGATE AND PROSECUTE THE WALL STREET CRIMINALS who clearly broke the law and helped cause the 2008 financial crisis.
-
CONGRESS ENACT LEGISLATION TO PROTECT OUR DEMOCRACY BY REVERSING THE EFFECTS OF THE CITIZENS UNITED SUPREME COURT DECISION which essentially said corporations can spend as much as they want on elections. The result is that corporations can pretty much buy elections. Corporations should be highly limited in ability to contribute to political campaigns no matter what the election and no matter what the form of media. This legislation should also RE-ESTABLISH THE PUBLIC AIRWAVES IN THE U.S. SO THAT POLITICAL CANDIDATES ARE GIVEN EQUAL TIME FOR FREE AT REASONABLE INTERVALS IN DAILY PROGRAMMING DURING CAMPAIGN SEASON. The same should extend to other media.
-
CONGRESS PASS THE BUFFETT RULE ON FAIR TAXATION SO THE RICH AND CORPORATIONS PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE & CLOSE CORPORATE TAX LOOP HOLES AND ENACT A PROHIBITION ON HIDING FUNDS OFF SHORE. No more GE paying zero or negative taxes. Pass the Buffet Rule on fair taxation so the rich pay their fair share. (If we have a really had a good negotiating position and have the place surrounded, we could actually dial up taxes on millionaires, billionaires and corporations even higher…back to what they once were in the 50’s and 60’s. )
-
CONGRESS COMPLETELY REVAMP THE SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION and staff it at all levels with proven professionals who get the job done protecting the integrity of the marketplace so citizens and investors are both protected. This agency needs a large staff and needs to be well-funded. It’s currently has a joke of a budget and is run by Wall St. insiders who often leave for high ticket cushy jobs with the corporations they were just regulating. Hmmm.
-
CONGRESS PASS SPECIFIC AND EFFECTIVE LAWS LIMITING THE INFLUENCE OF LOBBYISTS AND ELIMINATING THE PRACTICE OF LOBBYISTS WRITING LEGISLATION THAT ENDS UP ON THE FLOOR OF CONGRESS.
-
CONGRESS PASSING “Revolving Door Legislation” LEGISLATION ELIMINATING THE ABILITY OF FORMER GOVERNMENT REGULATORS GOING TO WORK FOR CORPORATIONS THAT THEY ONCE REGULATED. So, you don’t get to work at the FDA for five years playing softball with Pfizer and then go to work for Pfizer making $195,000 a year. While they’re at it, Congress should pass specific and effective laws to enforce strict judicial standards of conduct in matters concerning conflicts of interest. So long as judges are culled from the ranks of corporate attorneys the 1% will retain control.
-
ELIMINATE “PERSONHOOD” LEGAL STATUS FOR CORPORATIONS. The film “The Corporation” has a great section on how corporations won “personhood status”. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SuUzmqBewg . Fast-forward to 2:20. It’ll blow your mind.
but how on earth did I find this? let me help you out there too. I utilized “google”, a thing so prevalent amongst you human persons it has achieved the status of noun, verb, and concept, in addition to being a gigantic corporation who does not pay its U.S. taxes and moves its money offshore. I went to the google, and typed in “occupy wall street”, and their website shows up. oh, wait, here, I’ll make it EVEN EASIER FOR YOU. I will provide a LINK, right here, even though I am a blobfish, and all I do is bob about the internet ocean, scooping up all available information as it floats towards me. yes, even so, I will still provide you with a link, which means you will not even have to exert yourselves by going to google. indeed, the journey to google is hard and arduous. it is, what, a click of a mouse or something like that? too difficult. let a muscle-less, gelatinous blob of a fish assist you. oh no, it’s no trouble.
http://occupywallst.org/forum/first-official-release-from-occupy-wall-street/
furthermore, why are you so upset about the guy fawkes masks? why does that upset you so? I myself am far more disturbing a sight. if I ever go to one of these protests I will most definitely procure a guy fawkes mask, so as to disturb you in a much more superficial way than my reality would produce in you. no, we know what upsets you about the masks. it is because of the great futuristic documentary, “V for Vendetta”— not because any of you know anything about the gunpowder plot, or what became of guy fawkes, for that matter. no, you are upset because that movie, that cartoony, dark movie, meant something powerful and profound and revolutionary. and that is scary and upsetting, though, again, not nearly so frightening as my own true visage.
also, all of us have noticed a trend towards trying to persuade the occupiers of wall street to occupying other places, trying to claim that wall street is not the problem, “washington” is. again, may I cite another fabulous documentary (you human persons should really go to the movies every once in awhile), the one called “chinatown”. put simply, if you want to know where the problem is, the “whodunit”, you have to follow the money. and wall street is the symbolic place of power when it comes to money in america, and throughout the world. we all know this. even we fish know this to be true. if you want to fix government, you have to fix what runs the government, and in america’s case, it’s the money, honey.
distractions like these aside, I am mightily astounded that a species that is supposedly as evolved as humans is so easily confused by such obvious things. much as I was amused that the “tea party” and their proponents are so upset at the OWS movement for supposedly threatening private property and the rich, when the “tea party” is named after an action wherein a bunch of armed human persons forcibly boarded a privately owned ship in boston harbor and tossed privately owned, expensive goods into the sea (thank you, by the way, it was delicious). oh, but bust a window out of a starbuck’s in seattle, and now it is the apocalypse!
so, to sum up. google. guy fawkes. chinatown. tea or coffee. yes. I think that’s quite clear enough. you aren’t fooling anyone, human persons. except maybe yourselves.
occupy everywhere. I know I do, but then I have few options, being a blobfish and all.
sincerely
the blobfish
if you have not yet read this tumblr blog, you should check it out! it is spectacular.
today a few human persons reminded american human persons that relative to the problems and poverty of the rest of the world, america is still lucky and still consumes way too much, and this is true. it doesn’t fix the problem with america, but it is true, and something to consider, and a problem that also needs to be fixed.
may we Swimmies humbly suggest all human persons start with respecting the planet you (and we!) live upon, and doing something together to fix that? that will help with the starvation, and loss of coastal regions, and high water rising, and famine, and warfare over resources that is already happening. it will help you with long term food futures, and immigration, and even one of your biggest problems you don’t want to discuss, which is your overpopulation problem. for the more secure human persons feel, the less children they feel the need to have!
we also noted a few “pull yourselves together” and “you did this to yourselves” statements today. we consider the entire Occupy movement a pulling together, so you can check that off the list! but as for the “you did this to yourselves”— hmmm. we are curious about that.
did you human persons in accidents do those to yourselves? or the ones with cancer, or born with spinal bifida or schizophrenia or depression? did you do that? see, we fish cannot do those things to ourselves, but maybe you mammals are different— we’re not sure.
also, did you do that thing with interest rates to yourselves, or deregulating your banks, or pillaging and mismanaging pension funds, or creating the “credit score”, or the housing bubble? we think that isn’t accurate: we think that was this “1%” who did that. but the other question we have is this: if anyone out there thinks they are going to get through life without ever once making a mistake or a bad decision, first, you are high and on crack. second, do you think only the 99% should pay for those bad mistakes, and the 1% should be rewarded for them?
the denials are just a coping strategy. that is what the blobfish says. the words “personal responsibility” are also a coping strategy, used to pretend a kind of superiority, when in fact if something bad happens to you and you didn’t do it, you can only take responsiblity for how you react, and if you react by occupying wall street? that’s a good first step!
yay!
